PEP EcoPassport

Electricity from renewables plays a critical role in achieving environmental goals. Electrical assets – such as cables, connectors and transformers – require energy as well raw materials. Their production has an environmental impact, in terms of carbon footprint and resource consumption.

Selecting the eco-friendliest product requires a reliable method to compare the environmental performance of  industrial products. The independent PEP EcoPassport program is a useful tool for this purpose.

PEP EcoPassport is an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).  An EPD is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of a product. It provides information about the product's environmental impact throughout its life cycle through recognized methodology. PEP EcoPassport is based on international standards, such as ISO 14025.

Nexans has registered more than 60 Product Environment Profiles covering over a thousand product references. The publication of this information on behalf of the PEP ecopassport program is a guarantee of credibility and high standards with respect to environmental objectives. It also has become a major argument for differentiation.

“ As a principal and purchaser of electrical equipment, RTE is very committed to the objectives set by the ISO 14025 standard. Life cycle assessment (LCA) and the ability to accurately compare suppliers on this basis is crucial. The PEP program, a pioneer in this field in France and specific to the electricity sector, perfectly meets this need. It's also a good way to help all the players in the chain move forward. ”

The production of electrical components - such as cables, connectors and transformers - requires both energy, water and raw materials. It is increasingly important to reduce carbon footprint and raw material consumption. At Nexans, Ecodesign is an important method toward greater circularity and carbon neutrality. It allows us to produce less waste while at the same time reusing more raw materials.

Our approach to protecting the environment

Nexans is convinced of the need to protect the planet for current and future generations. The environmental approach is one of the three top priorities of our CSR policy. We have set very high standards and launched a joint innovation project to meet our triple objective:

  • Reduce our environmental impact
  • Stimulate the circular economy
  • Fight against climate change.

About PEP EcoPassport

Nexans is a founding member of PEP ecopassport® program. This independent organization applies a recognized methodology to deliver measurable information about the environmental impact of industrial products. It is based on international standards, like the ISO 14025 requirements.
