Paris, September 3, 2002 - Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cabling industry, has successfully teamed up with Unisys and BT on a project to supply a high performance LAN to one of the most demanding customers in the world, one of the UK�s Security Agencies. The project will involve the installation of a Nexans high performance LANmark system that will service the voice and data requirements of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).
Unisys and its partners will install the Nexans LANmark Structured Cabling System into the GCHQ building in Cheltenham. The project, one of the largest of it�s type in Europe, requires a volume of data cabling that would almost stretch from Cheltenham to Rio de Janeiro to be implemented on a very demanding time scale. The unique nature of the project required a high level of flexibility and ingenuity from the support and services of the manufacturer.
The cabling solution to be installed includes the latest LANmark snap-in technology at the outlet, and the renowned heavy duty LANmark PCB technology at the patch panel, together with the reliable LANmark UTP cable. This combination of technology will give GCHQ a state of the art cabling solution, offering a flexible and reliable network infrastructure able to cater for and withstand upgrades, additions, moves and changes, that will provide ISO/IEC 11801 performance for over 30 years.
Established in 1946 as successor to the Government Code and Cipher School, GCHQ is an intelligence and security organization which reports directly to the Foreign Secretary. GCHQ provides signals intelligence and information assistance to a wide range of Government departments to help protect the nations security, to provide support to military operations and to safeguard vital communications.
