Paris, January 21, 2002 - Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has been awarded a contract, by Norsk Hydro, of approximately 11 million euros for the supply of umbilical cable to the Fram Vest project in the North Sea.
Nexans shall supply Norsk Hydro with two static lengths of umbilical cable, a short 50 metre one that is to be laid between the wells on the Fram Vest field and a 25 km length that is to be laid back to the Troll C platform. The cable, laid along the seabed, will be used to convey fluids, electricity and telecommunications signals between the platform and the wells.
The Fram Vest project lies at a depth of around 360 metres, and consists of two subsea well templates, with four wells each. The plan for development and production of Fram Vest was approved by the Norwegian authorities in March 2001 and production is due to begin in October 2003, with an estimated output of 60,000 barrels of oil per day.
Yvon Raak, President Energy Division Nexans, said of the contract, "We have carried out several successful projects with Norsk Hydro in the past, and we are delighted to have renewed our relationship with them on the Fram Vest project."
Umbilicals are a part of the complete product and service range that Nexans offers to Oil&Gas companies, for onshore and offshore applications.
