Paris, March 26, 2002 - Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has secured a contract with Swiss Life, the UK's most successful insurance company, for the supply of its LANmark 6 cabling solution.
The installation of the cabling solution by Nexans is part of a major expansion project by Swiss Life following the receipt of two industry awards, Best Group Critical Illness Provider and Best Individual Income Protection Provider, in recent months. The insurance company has found that the growth in its business activities has warranted moving their base of operation to the Edward Pavilion in the Albert Docks, Liverpool. This is a £10 million investment in 80,000 sq.ft. of space that will provide them with a modern working environment that is so essential in today's market place.
Nexans has supplied the LANmark structured cabling system to future proof Swiss Life's IT operations, enabling them to incorporate new technological developments without having to alter their network infrastructure. Despite the difficulties experienced in trying to install the cable into a Grade 1 listed building, with some walls being 5 feet thick, the partnership between Nexans and GCL Ltd. (a Nexans Certified Installer), ensured the project was completed on time.
Tim Wheeler, Swiss Life's I.T. Services Manager, said of the project, "With a move to a new home we had a rare opportunity to restructure our IT system. We are mainly running Windows NT, but increasingly broadband applications such as video to the desk have meant our current system is under pressure. With this golden opportunity, I wanted Swiss Life to have a facility fit for future growth. Therefore future proofing, resilience and reliability were the watchwords for my needs.
