Application

The Mechanical Connector is used to simplify the installation and maintenance cabling. The integrated splice in the connector plug avoids the need of a splice holder, radius management around the splice, and the use of 2 coiling areas (one for the 900µm fibre and one for the 250µm fibre).

Moreover, the mechanically Spliced Connector does not require any splicing machine, neither any energy source. In addition, its implementation is extremely simple, as simple as a child’s play.

Extremely reliable, and much more than a mechanical splice thanks to the stripping, cleaning, and cleaving processes done in factory in a safe environment on one end of the splice, the Mechanical Connector is logically more efficient.

Main functions:

  • Carry out an optical connection directly between a fibre and another connector via a standard SC or LC adapter.
  • Lower the optical losses thanks to a splice half done in the factory and thanks to the index matching gel.

  • Bring a mechanical retention on the splice and on the fibre.
  • Protect the splice

Implementation Process

The optical connection is done in 5 steps:

  • The preparation: the boot is inserted on the fibre, the 900µm buffer is removed, the fibre is fixed in the stabilizer, the 250 µm fibre is stripped and cleaned.
  • The cleaving of the fibre (Nexans tool is recommended).
  • The splicing operation: the stabilizer is slipped upon the assembling jig while the fibre is entering in the connector.

  • When the stabilizer and the assembling jig are assembled, the tightening of the splice is done by releasing the wedge plate and pressing on both sides of it. (cf. fig.1)
  • To end with, the boot and the tube are assembled on the rear part of the connector. The connection can then be checked thanks to the “light window”. (cf. Fig.2)
