Why NEK TS 606: 2009

Technology is playing as even more a critical role to prevent explosions and fire happening when drilling a subsea well or during the production phase. More stringent rules and procedures are going to be applied in the offshore industry to avoid a second Macondo accident to happen.

In order to resist to more stringent and destructive fire conditions, Nexans has developed the 2009 version of its NEK 606 product family.
The improved cable design of Nexans 2009 NEK 606 version withstands fire temperature of 830°C for 120 minutes, compared with 750° for 90 minutes for the previous design. In addition, to take into account real fire conditions, our new cables are able to pass fire tests with shocks, which is a thrue performance enhancement compared to the previous version. During a fire, shocks are inevitable and cables fire performances could be reduced if not correctly designed for this scoope.
The benefits of opur new cable are of outmost importance since safety on board will effectively be improved and equipment will still be powered with our cables during and after the intervention of a fire brigade.
