Development of communication cables covers practically all areas of communications, data transmission and telecommunications, over copper conductors or optical fibers. These cables are used for equipment wiring, interconnection, data transmission networks (LAN, SAN, MAN, WAN) and telecommunications infrastructure.

- Application-specific cables (medical, instrumentation, aerospace, military,?).
- Optical instrumentation and sensor cables, in particular for the oil and gas industry.
- Equipment wiring and interconnection (high-speed copper and fiber).
- Data transmission networks (copper and fiber cables, interconnection components). Cables using single-mode, multi-mode or plastic optical fibers.
- Terrestrial infrastructure cables and components for Telecommunications, Railways, Water and Power networks, with improved copper performance (for xDSL), reduction factor (for Railways), or special performance (e.g. indoor-outdoor cables).
- Submarine cables (optical) for repeatered and unrepeatered systems.
- Network accessories, components, test devices, etc?

The development effort is efficiently conducted through two Competence Centers for the Data Transmission Networks, located in Belgium and in the United States of America, and a Competence Network of eight Nexans units located in European countries.
